6 Angels
The first minutes of the series were really promising. Terrorists, high-tech weapons, conspiracy to destroy the world, sexy SWAT girls to the rescue You name it! But, it quickly bogged down to a typical b-movie boring adventure.
.Animation [Nice ideas, bad presentation.]
General Artwork and Backgrounds: 1 Flashy most of the time but quite amateur in all. All its appeal is based on models of awesome meckas, kick-ass weapons and sexy women. But in the end they are just nice ideas based on the norm of most sci-fi titles.
Motion Fluidity: 0 It sucks big time as the robots and the characters move out of balance on many occasions (a typical problem when you work with many separate layers of animation).
Lightning/ Visual Effects: 1/2 The 3D models are done very good, but they move unrealistically most of the time and have rather crude lightning/shadowing effects (low budget, I presume; can’t blame the animators).
Character Figures: 1/2 We have the eternally present problem that all amateur series have: They all look the same! Cookie cutter! Same body-type, same eye-type, same way of moving Takes away the feeling of individuality and uniqueness. But at least the original mold is sexy enough to look at.
Total for animation: 2/5
Sound: 2/5
Mediocre voice acting and forgettable music themes and sound effects. Plain lukewarm result.
Story [Quality is a different story]
General Scenario: 1/2 [spoilers follow] Bad guy ecologist-like terrorists take control of a base. Anti-terrorist army attacks to stop them. Good guy chicks bust open some noses. Villains reveal their plan to destroy the world with radiation and then repopulate it with radiation-proof artificial beings. A few speeches about the girls’ bodies, their pasts and the future of the planet are given and then we have the final battle That’s pretty much, it. It’s straightforward, clichéd, and doesn’t really make you worried about the ecology of our planet.
Side Stories: 0 Its small duration made it predictable and impossible to have any twists.
Pace of Plot: 0 The plot moves way too fast. No time to appreciate what you are offered. Half the time alone is wasted on pointless battles and ecchi.
Believability/Reasoning/Realism: 0Maybe it makes sense if you are still 10 years old. If not, it is as real as the things you see when you are stoned.
Conclusion: 1/2 Nothing you won’t expect to see from the start. It ends in a pretty obvious way. But at least it HAS an ending.
Total for story: 1/5
Characters [Missing in action]
Personality: 0 Completely carton characters. Most characters don’t have a personality and exist only as cannon fodder for the battles and ecchi for our pleasure. Others, who do, die anti-climactically towards the end by their own ally (a lousy solution for not leaving loose ends in the story).
Backdrop: 0 There are a few attempts at trying to give them a backdrop story but the result is simply lame. There is simply no time for that!
Presence: 1/2 Other than the leading girls who look sexy, no one else has a strong presence in the story.
Development and Catharsis: 0 None. All the characters end as they begin (excluding those who were killed, of course).
Total for characters: 1/10
Personal judgment: 1/5
There is nothing original or likeable enough in this title, in order to deserve a second try. Its only reason for existence is for the die-hard collectors who will put it in a dusty shelf and leave it there for good. You may like its art concept and sexy girls, but you will forget pretty quickly all the rest.
Overall: 1/5
A good way of wasting a few hours without thinking.
Suggestion list
This series is better than: Totally Spies. (lame) An American cartoon with anime overtones with a trio of spy girls. Too fake and stupid. Charlie’s Angels. (sexy but lame) An old American series and recent movies with a trio of spy girls. Too fake and stupid, as well… Nice asses, by the way.
This series is worse than: * 009-1.* (rather good) A sci-fi anime with a team of anti-terrorist girls. Rather boring but also with nice asses. R.O.D. OVA. (good) A sci-fi anime with a team of anti-terrorist paper-controlling girls. Great action scenes. Gunslinger Girls. (good) No sci-fi but it has little girls, brainwashed to become assassins. WAY better characters. Ghost In The Shell (both the series, the movies and the manga). (very good) It also has sci-fi and a woman assassin/swat member in it, but the story is a billion times better and is brimming with issues around humanity, soul, technology and politics. Graphics and sound kick ass! Battle Angel Alita (the manga). (awesome!) It also has sci-fi and a woman warrior in it, but the story is a billion times better and is brimming with issues around humanity, soul, technology and politics. The battles and the cyberpunk atmosphere are awesome!
